Pantone Announces Two 2016 Colors Of The Year

For the first time ever, color authority Pantone has given the prestigious title of Color Of The Year to two different hues: Rose Quartz (Pantone 13-1520) and Serenity (Pantone 15-3919).

At first glance, the two shades side-by-side call to mind baby products and newborns’ nurseries, but when used separately, the pastel hues are less saccharine. Pink has seen a resurgence in design lately, no longer reserved for little girls’ rooms. “Rose quartz is not baby pink. It doesn’t have that wimpy feel,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone’s Color Institute, told The Wall Street Journal.

As for Serenity? Not everyone likes to see the world through rose-colored glasses – the periwinkle tone offers a more masculine take on the pastel trend. “The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity challenges traditional perceptions of color association,” announces Pantone. Pantone believes that together, they create balance, and offer a soothing palette that acts as an antidote to modern day stresses.
