Quirky Ceramic Bowls With Charming Imperfections

Belgian designer Ilona Van den Bergh’s new collection of bowls is deliberately imperfect, but that’s all part of its charm. She slip-casts the vessels in a plaster mould, then adds a unique indentation by hand — which means each bowl in the collection — which she’s dubbed Moon — is one-of-a-kind. After they’re fired, Van den Bergh submerges them in an engobe, a clay slip coating that gives the bowls their earthy, pastel hues.
