Sculptural Rocking Chair
Forget baby’s nursery — this sculptural rocking chair is so gorgeous we want one for our own rooms. Designed by New York-based AE Superlab, it’s made from cross-laminated plywood and was hand-constructed in Brooklyn. Its beautiful, swooping lines were inspired by Arabic Diwani calligraphy, but the design was also a highly technical undertaking: the “ribs” are specifically shaped to support the chair’s dramatic, cantilevered seat and reclining profile. “We wanted to create a chair that was simultaneously sculptural yet precisely engineered. Minimal yet warm and alive,” says designer Ahmed ElHusseiny.
