Seeing Green

A while back a reader asked, “Hey, where are the green rooms?” She was seeing so much blue, but wanted to see examples of green, her favourite hue. So here goes (just in time for the final crunch before spring!)…

Here’s a classic decorator’s living room with lots of pattern, texture and green! There’s lots to delight the eye in this room, and even though it’s a monochromatic scheme, it’s not boring.

Green full-length drapes? Why not? I like how these drapes combine two shades of green fabric.

This room’s all about yellow-greens and lemongrass hues. Again, traditional and full of decorator tricks. Love the green matting on those prints!

Here’s something a bit more punchy and playful. Green and white wallpaper in a powder room is so fresh and fun. Love the bamboo-style chandelier that heightens the drama, and the touch of natural wood in the vanity.

A roman blind is a great way to add a little green fabric to your space. The crisp white bands make this example seem tailored and sophisticated.

Painted woodwork is great in this mid-tone green and they’ve carried the paint colour onto the card table and chairs, too. What a fun idea!

Now if you want to be inspired by green furnishings and accessories, take a look at these beauties…

First, a handsome chest of drawers from Grange. This could be the inspiration for a dresser you’ve got at home.

How about this beautiful and artisanal decoupage tray from John Derian featuring a hosta, roots ‘n all? I love it!!

You could do a whole set of these green painted chairs from Crate & Barrel around a sober dining table for some springy fun. Or just paint the one’s you’ve got!

Also from Crate & Barrel is this gorgeous green ceramic lamp. This colour is totally on-trend and so is the simple, basic and hefty shape.

If you really want to be on-trend, try the look of malachite. All of the decorators are in love with this jaw-dropping stone’s finish and use it to faux finish anything and everything.

And for some soft green underfoot, try this celery coloured flatweave rug from Madeline Weinrib. Even if it’s the only green item in a room, it will perk the place up with fresh, springtime happiness.
