Choosing A Yellow Paint

Best designer bets for a casual or elegant look in the living, kitchen and dining area, as well as the stairs.

Q. I want to paint the entire ground floor and stairway up to the second floor of my home in yellow. Can you recommend a light yellow paint colour that doesn’t have green in it? Also what colour of furniture goes with yellow walls?

— W.M., St. Albert, Alta.

A. Yellow is a classic wall colour that really never goes out of style. I would suggest one of the following paint colours: Para’s White Corn, Corn Silk, or Nimbus or Benjamin Moore’s Moonlight (2020-60) or Lighthouse (2018-60). Keep in mind that the paint colour will look different from room to room. Test out a few hues you like on 1’ by 1’ pieces of foam core board first and look at them at different times of day in all the rooms you plan to paint. This process will also give you a good idea of how the yellow of your choice appears next to your existing upholstery, drapery and flooring. For furniture, choose light pine or painted white furniture for a casual look or dark espresso pieces for a stately, elegant appearance.
