Virtually Escape To The Idyllic Patina Farm In California
Brooke Giannetti, a California-based interior decorator and blogger, and her husband Steve, are the co-owners of the popular L.A. decor shop Giannetti Home in Santa Barbara. Their new book, Patina Living details their life on Patina Farm in Ojai (spoiler alert: it’s heavenly), which exemplifies the modern European farmhouse look the couple is known for, as well as their enviable garden.

The dining room has a distinct Tuscan feel with textured stone walls painted in a lemony hue. The antique French limestone mantel offers display for a vintage cement garden snail and collection of gilt candlesticks. A lush bouquet of Gladiolus stalks from the garden gives a summertime feel.
“We rescued our barn cat, Sundance, and in return he helps keep the rodent population down at Patina Farm,” Brooke explains. “Although he is feral, he has become quite friendly and often joins us for drinks on our porch.”
Rustic finishes, statuary and a casual bucket of blooms emphasizes the laid-back farmhouse vibe.
“After cutting in the garden, I place buckets of roses and flowering branches in the mudroom until I can arrange them into bouquets around our home,” says Brooke.
The arbor is a series of pale gray steel arches covered with white floribunda roses, with lavender planted along the base of the vines. “This restrained palette allows the arbor to read as one larger structure. When in bloom (which is most of the year), the arbor is a gorgeous focal point of the view from our home.”
Sunwashed shades, pickled or cerused woods and openwork metal lanterns are lighthearted SoCal staples.
“I chose a selection of David Austin roses, whose colors range from intense fuchsia to the palest peach. Their scents are equally varied, filling the air with hints of sweet fruitiness and musky rose. Beneath the roses is a carpet woven from a mixture of my favorite ground covers: pink and white Santa Barbara daisy, deep purple geranium and white blooming snow-in-summer.”
