Pepperoni Pita Pan Pizza With Tomato Dipping Sauce

Recipe:

Step 1: Place a 1-quart sauce pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Add the onions and garlic and sauté with out colouring for 1 minute. Add the crushed tomatoes and oregano and simmer for about 15 minutes.

Step 2: Season with salt, pepper, and stir in the Parmesan cheese. Add hot sauce if desired. Set aside.

Step 3: To make pita pizza place a 10” nonstick pan over medium to high heat add the pita and fry for 1 minute on each side to heat through. Remove pita to a plate. In the same pan over medium to high heat lay down the slices of pepperoni, sprinkle over the sliced onions, sliced peppers and cook for 30 seconds with out moving ingredients. Add the torn basil leaves and sprinkle over the cheese. Top with the warmed pita and press down lightly and give a slight twist motion to help the pepperoni and other ingredients help to release. Allow to cook for about a minute, place a plate on top of the pan and one motion invert the pan to put the pita pizza onto the plate.

Step 4: Season with cracked black pepper and the dipping sauce.

Pita Pizza
1 8” pita
10 slices of pepperoni
1/4 cup sliced green peppers
1/4 cup sliced onions
1/2 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese
6 basil leaves torn
Salt and pepper

Tomato Dipping Sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp onion minced
1 clove garlic minced
1 tbsp chopped oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp Parmesan grated fine
Hot sauce to taste (optional)
