10 Bloggers Share How They Decorate Their Homes For The Holidays
From classic Christmas to Scandi chic, our favorite design bloggers have some pretty strong opinions when it comes to holiday decorating. Here, 10 of them open their doors, giving us a sneak peek at how they decorate their homes for the holidays.
Jen, the blogger behind City Farmhouse, found herself drawn to “rich textures and cozy elements that had a neutral palette.”
She opted for a faux tree in her living room, but says it “looks so real, no one can ever tell the difference.”
Jen likes to keep her rooms neutral because it makes it easy to add and remove accessories — through the holidays or any other time of year.
Lucy, the blogger behind Craftberry Bush, decided to forgo the typical red and white scheme this year in favour of a more unexpected black and white palette. Silver and gold accents add festive flair to her living room.
In her dining room, Lucy opted for a colorful center table display, with bright ornaments and twinkle lights, complemented by brass candleholders. Beneath the ornaments is a gold leaf table runner.
Lucy didn’t neglect the kitchen. She added twinkle lights around the edges of the counter and a few bowls of ornaments to bring the Christmas cheer into the cooking area.
Laura, the owner of Duke Manor Farm and blogger behind the site of the same name, calls herself a “traditionalist at heart.” Her Christmas tree is decorated in a classic palette of red and white.
A few simple additions to a bar cart can add a lot of festive flair. Laura used spray paint to jazz up a paper mâché deer and her ornaments are displayed in a glass vase.
In her dining area, Laura kept the seasonal accents to a minimum. A faux fur silver table runner does wonders for the seasonal feel of the room, complemented by a series of silver candles in glass holders.
Courtney, the photographer and blogger behind French Country Cottage, loves using natural items for decorating, including garlands, wreaths and trees.
To add some extra visual interest to her greenery, Courtney mixes in fresh flowers, fruit and nuts. She added pears and eucalyptus to her dining room table centerpiece.
Courtney’s Christmas decor doesn’t stop at her front door. She brings the spirit of the holidays into her backyard with twinkle lights, oversized lanterns and cozy throws.
As the blogger behind The Golden Sycamore, Allison focuses a lot of her energy on DIY projects — and the holiday season is no different. From handmade cypress wreaths to festive-colored throw pillows, Allison proves that decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Allison’s biggest holiday DIY project was this chalkboard. (If you can’t find the right piece, you can always make it!) She painted the frame and the center and used a projector to trace the dates and the lettering to create the countdown calendar.
Since Allison doesn’t have a fireplace in her main room, she used a shelf to hang her stockings. A sage wreath hangs above, which Allison says she loves because “it doesn’t scream Christmas” and can be kept up beyond the holiday season.
Stylist, author and T.V. host Emily Henderson likes to keep things pretty traditional for the holidays — she opted for a green and red color scheme and tried to create a “fun and playful” environment for her children.
To dress up her home for the holidays, Emily added anything that looked like “a toy instead of a grown-up, more sophisticated decor piece.” The vintage camper and stuffed snowmen all contribute to the theme.
Tired of the standard green tree? Try a faux white one like Emily’s. She kept the color scheme simple with hits of red, green and a bit of blue. She also added extra greenery around the room wherever she could fit it.
Jillian Harris put her casual cool West Coast spin on holiday decor by cozying up her room with faux throws and pillows.
Jillian recommends swapping your standard logs for candles in the fireplace to keep the coziness but eliminate the clean-up.
Jillian skipped the traditional Christmas colors and opted for a copper tree — which matches her interior decor perfectly.
Another unique choice for the holidays, designer Monika Hibbs decorated her home with shades of pink and white.
The pink theme carries through to the tree, which Monika decorated with twinkling lights, pink ribbons and florals (an unexpected touch at Christmas).
Monika carried the color scheme throughout the house, adding pink and copper accents to her bannister garland.
Blogger Niki Brantmark of My Scandinavian Home loves decorating with real candles. She kept her tree decor simple, opting to really embrace her “off the grid” theme.
Niki used several candles to decorate her dining table as well as her tree, accenting the space with fresh greenery.
If there’s one thing that goes with the holidays, it’s hosting. To add some seasonal spirit to her bar cart, Niki added fresh eucalyptus leaves to a metallic vase.
The front entrance of this mountain home is already a showstopper, but twin evergreens and wreaths are the perfect way to prepare it for the holiday season.
When decorating this Utah home for the holidays, the design team at Studio McGee opted for natural decor that would help bring the elements in.
The team relied on greenery wherever they could use it, including above the fireplace and on each table throughout the house.
