Inside Gorgeous Spaces Designed By Studio McGee

If you didn’t catch our Instagram Live earlier this month, Lynda Reeves chatted with Shea McGee, co-founder of Studio McGee, a multifaceted design brand based out of Utah. The interview, which attracted thousands of viewers from across the globe, touched on Shea’s signature Modern Farmhouse style, how fashion and nature inspire her, and what’s next for her brand (including the upcoming season of Netflix’s Dream Home Makeover!). We also had an inside look at some of Shea’s latest projects, from a beautiful project in Arizona to her own home located outside of Salt Lake City. Known for her light and airy palette, use of organic materials, and masterful mix of new and old, Shea’s sophisticated and accessible style can be seen throughout these gorgeous interiors.

Arizona Homestead Project
In this home, a dark and moody dining room with panelled walls was originally painted white, but Shea decided to make a splash by opting for a darker hue. To contrast the square-shaped room, she chose a big round table with woven chairs and custom tufted cushions. The homeowner’s collection of dishes sits on a plate rack that’s been integrated into the molding for a seamless look.

In an all-white spa bathroom, a rustic bench and textured blind bring warmth to the space.

The spacious open-concept kitchen is fit for entertaining, with ample counter space, seating and storage. White beadboard ceilings evoke country charm, while a mix of metals bring a contemporary, elevated feel to the room.

Home On The Bay Project
Studio McGee collaborated with Sausalito Construction and Holscher Architecture on this San Francisco new build home. In the grand living room, a combination of off-white, off-black and natural materials perfectly encompass the studio’s livable and organic approach to design.

A mix of modern and traditional seating work together in the open-concept room. “I always love classics. I always love simplified, tailored pieces and something that feels very calming,” said Shea during our IG Live earlier this month.

One of the many hallmarks of Studio McGee’s style is vintage elements, which can be seen in this country-style kitchen featuring a vintage rug. “I do love vintage pieces, and that’s where that country aesthetic comes into play,” said Shea.

McGee Home Project
After spending many years making their client’s dream homes a reality, Shea and her husband Syd finally embarked on their own home project just outside of Salt Lake City. Designed and built over the course of five years, the final product is like walking into a lookbook for their design studio and furniture brand, McGee & Co. The gorgeous living room features a fireplace flanked by two modern bookcases. “The steel built-ins were a labor of love,” Shea told Lynda, who also noted that the arched doorways were installed to break up the straight, clean lines throughout her home.

The entire kitchen was designed around an antique door that Shea found on eBay. “If I can fit an antique door somewhere, I love to,” said Shea. Adding a mix of open and closed storage is another one of Shea’s design hallmarks. “Breaking up all of the closed is really nice, even it’s one moment by a kitchen sink.”

Shea also has a love of bench cushions, which can be seen in her calming living space. “If I can do one big cushion, I will. It’s comfortable, looks luxurious, and it just makes me want to lie down, and that’s my philosophy in design — encourage people to come in and stay a while.”
