Lynda Reeves rounds up more of her design essentials — from cocktail tables to clear columns.
In my latest column in H&H ‘s February 2019 issue , I listed some of my decorating essentials that are perfect for creating warm and inviting rooms in my house (and for my clients). There just wasn’t enough space to include everything, so here are more of my design must-haves. Tell me what you’re loving in the comments below!
I prefer these iconic chairs in clear plastic as opposed to smoky grey or solid colors. I use them in every room where there’s a need for an extra chair because they go with every style of furniture. With arms is best, except for parties when the armless ones are magic for entertaining. I can get 14 people around my dining room table with armless Ghost chairs, that will only seat 10 when I used my regular dining chairs. I’ve invested in a dozen armless ones that are stacked in my basement, but you can always rent them for a party.
My favorite is a mahogany Georgian table that sits in my front hall (similar to the one above), folded to form a small side table…
…and when I unfold it, and flip the top down, it becomes a card table with a green felt top. I throw a nice linen table cloth on it — and presto! I have a lovely extra dining table that seats four. Furniture that does double duty is especially helpful.
I have a few of these dotted around my living room and TV room, and they look amazing in gun metal, hammered brass or any other metal, wood or stone. They are perfect height to rest a drink, and can double as stools when I need a bit more seating.
I had these made years ago in different heights. They are simple plexiglass boxes that stand anywhere from 3 to 6 ft. tall. Put one in the corner of a room and place a vase on top, a beautiful bowl or any interesting object you love, and suddenly you have the next best thing to a piece of art. These stands elevate everyday things and make them feel more important.
Don’t get me started on how much I love fine woven trays, tables, chairs, bowls and placemats — anything for your home that is made from honey, amber or pale cream colored woven rattan or wicker. I think these pieces add a layer of texture that is soulful and beautiful in every room. Please check out the great woven products on Shop House & Home !
