As any pet owner knows, furry companions bring life to homes. And for the 22 designers featured in Susannah Salk’s latest book, At Home With Dogs And Their Designers , it’s clear the dogs rule their (expertly designed) roosts. From Jonathan Adler’s rescue pup to Mark D. Sikes ‘ French bulldog, here are six of our favorite pooches and the stunning interiors they live in.
German shepherd Sur has fully embraced the Cali cool lifestyle of his owner, A-list designer Windsor Smith. He rides shotgun up and down the Pacific Coast Highway and catches fly balls on the tennis court.
Jonathan Adler and husband Simon Doonan’s rescue pup, FoxyLady, is living her best life in Greenwich Village, New York. While she has a stylish dog bed of her own, she has full reign of the entire home. “Stuff is just stuff. The truth is everything we own is partially gnawed on,” says Jonathan. “It adds character.”
While French bulldog Lily is charming and petite, designer Mark D. Sikes knows where he stands in terms of pecking order. “I like to say our house is really her house and she just lets us live there too,” he says. Mark and his partner, Michael Griffin, decorated with plenty of rugs underfoot to keep Lily from slipping on the hardwood floors.
Theodore Nelson Papachristidis — the Yorkie son of New York City interior designer and author Alex Papachristidis and accessories designer Scott Nelson — even has his own hashtag (#teddynewyorkie). Talk about #petgoals.
Interior designer and author Brooke Giannetti and architect Steve Giannetti’s four pooches are living the dream in Ojai, California. Seen here are the couple’s two Shih Tzus, Sera and Sophie, cozied up in a Louis Vuitton dog carrier, Sophie’s favorite spot to sleep.
Labradoodle Sailor Anderson Gambrel looks right at home on owner and designer Steven Gambrel’s regal staircase. The red sisal carpet (perfect for dealing with muddy paws) has suitably nautical vibes for this pooch, who loves to jump off her dad’s boat in Sag Harbour, New York.
