A fresh and unexpected shade for counters and doors.
TV exec Alix Jaffe’s kitchen brings the colours of the verdant California landscape inside with grass-green cabinetry and honed marble countertops. Instead of uppers, Alix went with open shelving to display her collection of crisp white servingware.

Dark merlot-coloured cabinetry adds depth in this rustic space.
This Mulmur, Ontario, kitchen is loaded with texture, colour and character. The deep red paint — Portola Paints & Glazes‘ aptly-named ‘Cabernet’ — gives the traditional cabinetry a rich look, and ties in well with the rust-hued stools and warm wood beams overhead.

Kelly green livens up this gritty urban space.
This open, industrial loft has kitchen cabinets that do double-duty. Bright green livens up the raw space like an accent wall, while providing plenty of storage. Simple hardware and a bare light fixture keep the look modern, while a metallic floral wallpapered panel on the ceiling softens the space. Polished concrete flooring and mismatched wood chairs add an earthy, organic element.

Dark, high-gloss cabinetry delivers serious drama.
This dramatic kitchen by New York designer Miles Redd dares to be different. “I’m sick to death of all-white kitchens,” says Toronto blogger Jen Selk. “You know the ones I mean — vast expanse of white marble, tiled backsplash, bowl of citrus on the counter. It’s boring. I hope kitchens like this signal a shift back to cooking spaces with a little more interest and personality.”
