See How H&H Editors Plan To Decorate For The Holidays!

Looking for new ways to deck the halls this holiday season? Draw inspiration from how House & Home plan to decorate this year.

“Being such a fan of winter greens, I can’t part with even the littlest cut off from a tree or garland and end up pressing all sorts of things into mini vases to scatter through the house. A favorite for me is using some of my collected pewter, which tends to be hidden away most of the year, to make these impromptu arrangements. I love the pewter’s dark and moody patina and the shapely silhouettes are a great contrast to the fresh and natural greens.”
— Meg Crossley, Interiors Director

“The first Christmas I spent with my husband’s family, who are German, I just about fainted when I saw that they had lit candles on their tree. I thought it was only a matter of time before the whole house went up in flames. Reluctantly at first, but now enthusiastically, I’ve accepted this as part of our own family’s tradition. We have specially-made clips that attach the candles to the boughs, we chill the little red candles to make them burn more slowly and — of course — we only light the candles when we’ll be in our living room, with water handy. It creates a truly magical atmosphere and it wouldn’t feel like Christmas without them.” — Ceri Marsh, Editorial Director

“I love to use fresh greens through the season and experiment with different ways of using them, like this asymmetrical wreath that I made with an inexpensive brass hoop.” — Jennifer Koper, Design Editor

“One of my go-to holiday decorating traditions is having jingle bells on the inside of my front door. The welcoming sound instantly transports my family and guests into the holiday spirit.” — Lauren Petroff, Design Editor

“We love hosting on New Year’s Eve and this year I plan to give our staircase the royal treatment with this DIY Festive Paper Garland. I love how statement-making it is! Our staircase is right in front of our front door and it would be such a fun way to greet guests — not to mention, it would make a fabulous photo backdrop!”
— Adena Leigh, Senior Digital Editor

“Most of my “decorating” efforts go into my gift wrapping. I collect fancy ribbon throughout the year and save enough cedar clippings and twigs of berries to layer under mini bells and bows. No two presents look the same, and everyone always appreciates the effort. I hope it makes them feel extra special. Christmas is all about giving, right?” — Kimberley Brown, Executive Editor
