See Inside The 2015 TIFF Red Carpet Suite

Once a year, Toronto hosts one of the world’s biggest film festivals, with 300+ films showing in over 10 venues throughout the city. One of the main theaters where galas are held is Roy Thomson Hall, and inside is the Red Carpet Suite designed by House & Home. H&H editor-in-chief Suzanne Dimma, designer Jenna Cadieux and H&H style expert Mark Challen transformed the venue’s musician’s lounge into a sophisticated suite, where VIP ticket holders get to enjoy pre-screening cocktails with a view of the red carpet. The team took a simple approach to natural accents, using just succulents for a spare and sophisticated look.

Lavender succulents and glowing light boxes line the windowsill, where ticket holders get a close-up view of celebrities arriving on the red carpet.

The designers created a number of intimate gathering zones, perfect for sipping cocktails and gossiping about the latest TIFF buzz. A rustic honeycomb bookshelf from Casalife acts as a divider between the two seating areas.

Flanking both sides of the shelf, the Alton sofas from Elte Mkt are subtly detailed with tufted seat cushions, and display a few of the pale linen pillows featured in the suite by Tonic Living.

For an optimum view of the red carpet, the designers kept the seating on the wall adjacent to the window very low. The Dover sectional from Elte Mkt is mixed with harder elements like concrete and metal tables, adding layers of texture to the space.

A plexiglass-framed triptych collage was created for the space by the design team and features some of the celebrity faces that have been influential at TIFF over the years. It takes pride of place above the main seating area.

The work of Toronto-based artist Maureen O’Connor, available through Art Interiors, hangs above each Alton sofa. The depth and color palette in her work feels calming yet dramatic in this space. The pieces are hung from the ceiling using wire cable, echoing the look of a gallery.

Each zone has a unique coffee table. One features a walnut table from Casalife with a lovely base detail, while another is furnished with two Elte Mkt benches topped with an abundance of books and acrylic trays.

A fully stocked bar takes up one whole wall of the lounge, where a Samsung TV offers viewers a look at the stars arriving on the red carpet outside.
