Top 10: Best House & Home Kitchens Of 2015

As the year winds down, we thought we’d take a look back at House & Home‘s best kitchens of 2015. Pulled from the pages of our 2015 issues, here are the most inspiring kitchens that we featured in the past year.

This gorgeous kitchen appeared on the cover of our March 2015 issue. A set of sliding barn doors with black hardware sets it apart, creating a unique storage solution that’s as stylish as it is functional. Dark cabinetry offers a welcome contrast to the floor-to-ceiling natural wood accents.

White oak and brass fixtures give this kitchen a sense of understated coziness typical of Scandinavian design. The homeowners, also the owners of design store Mjölk, wanted to keep the space open and like a “woodworker’s studio, with all the tools on display.” We’d say it was a resounding success.

Designer Cameron MacNeil took cues from Cape Cod beach houses and New York designer Robert Stilin when decorating this Muskoka family cottage. The braces on the ends of the island give the space rustic flair and a maintenance-free white Caesarstone countertop is ideal for laid-back cottage life.

Architectural designer Nicholas Lewin built his family home on the shore of Chester, N.S., and let the seaside inspire the airy interior. The expansive kitchen island is topped with 200-year-old pine flooring, while striped barstools are a nod to the subtle nautical theme.

With plenty of seating areas set within an open plan layout, this is the ultimate entertaining kitchen. This weekend house embraces an eclectic country look, while bringing in some modern industrial details. Case in point: the replica Saarinen tulip table paired with pine chairs in the back left corner.

To respect this Toronto Victorian semi’s heritage, designer Sam Sacks mixed old and new to give the kitchen a modern feel. By pairing light Calacatta marble with matched walnut cabinets, stools and accessories, the look is streamlined without being heavy.

The 14-foot island dominates Jane Francisco and Colin Faulkner’s narrow downtown Toronto kitchen, in a good way, thanks to the massive Statuario marble waterfall. It’s a powerful style statement that perfectly complements the neutral backdrop of dark grey and white.

This bright chef’s kitchen is a standout for many reasons. The first being the island’s stunning blue faucet by Arne Jacobsen for Cantu. The bright yellow pantry door is unusual, and unmistakable, but perfectly complements the maple finishes and stainless steel countertops along the outside walls.

The kitchen of professional food photographer and blogger Nikole Herriott of Herriot Grace was bound to be stunning. Open shelves and unfitted cabinets show off her collection of unique kitchenware and lush potted plants.

This circa-1845 cottage was moved to a new foundation in 1995 in order to save it from demolition, but the old kitchen addition didn’t do the house justice. In its place stands this bright and symmetrical Susan Burns-designed kitchen oasis. The Egyptian tiles behind the stovetop were the inspiration for the color palette, as well as a natural focal point.
