Photo Beef And Broccoli Wontons With Ginger Sauce Appetizers Dumplings

Enjoy these wontons year-round or as a special treat for Chinese New Year.

Ingredients:

Wonton Filling
1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup broccoli florets, chopped
3/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 large egg
1-1/2 tsp garlic, minced
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 12-oz. package wonton wrappers (can be found in the refrigerator case of the produce section at most major supermarkets.)
2 tbsp sesame oil

Dipping Sauce
6 tbsp light soy sauce
1/4 cup plus
2 tsp fresh ginger, peeled and minced
1/4 cup rice vinegar
3 tbsp honey

Instructions:

Step 1: In a small bowl, blend 4 tbsp soy sauce, 1/4 cup ginger, vinegar and honey. In a medium bowl, combine beef and next 6 ingredients. Mix in remaining 2 tbsp soy sauce and 2 tsp ginger.

Step 2: Place 5-7 wrappers on work surface and brush edges lightly with water. Place 1 heaping tsp of beef filling in centre of each wrapper. Fold wrappers diagonally in half and gently press edges to seal. Place wontons on a sheet of waxed paper. Repeat filling remaining wrappers with beef mixture.

Step 3: Preheat oven to 250°F. Heat 1/2 tbsp oil in large heavy skillet over medium heat. Add 1/4 of the wontons and fry until golden and filling is cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to a baking sheet and place in oven to keep warm. Repeat frying with remaining wontons. Serve wontons with ginger dipping sauce.
