Bathrooms are our personal sanctuary — it’s where we get ready every morning and soak our stresses away in the evening. This hardworking space is a great place to take a design risk or two, whether it’s investing in a patinated bathtub or a dramatically-veined marble wall. If you’re planning a renovation for the new year or simply looking for inspiration for your Pinterest board, we rounded up the hottest 2020 bathroom trends.
Patinated Tubs
We love a sleek white bathtub as much as the next person, but when we laid eyes on this elegant Italian-made piece, we knew patinated marble was the new look of luxury in bathroom design. Pair with wooden accents to ground the look.

Square Tiles
Vertical tile was everywhere in 2019, but its square sister will be all the rage next year. There is something so classic yet fresh about this type of subway tile, especially with a dramatic contrasting grout.

Step aside, discreet pot lighting! We can’t get enough of statement light fixtures that double as art, hanging elegantly over a bathtub. From artful pendants to opulent chandeliers, let the lighting do all of the talking.

Trad Wainscotting
Although this traditional architectural detail is nothing new, there is something elegant about wainscotting in the bathroom. A muted palette of grey and white adds a dose of modern farmhouse flair to the space, especially with a curvaceous soaker tub.

Dramatic Veining
This trend is not for the design faint of heart. Heavily-veined marble looks oh-so-luxurious when clad on everything from the vanity to the shower walls. A dark palette feels more moody and modern, while lighter versions feel timeless and elegant.

Natural Wonder
If you’re lucky enough to have a jaw-dropping view (think: a city skyline or verdant countryside), why hide it behind frosted glass? A large window doubles as a picture frame, while natural materials, like stone and wood and wovens, bring the outdoors in.

Lush Life
Shower ledges are an often forgotten place to add a decorative touch, so why not add some greenery? Pick a moisture-loving plant — like a fern or a tropical plant, such as a Monstera or Caladium — and you’ve got a lush vignette fit for a green thumb.

Vintage Mirrors
Ornate, gilded and glamorous all come to mind when we think of the must-have mirrors for 2020. Look for these pieces in antique shops or flea markets — the grander, the better. Bonus points if you pair it with a graphic wallpaper for a twist on trad.

Mismatched Tile
For unexpected edge underfoot, lay bathroom tile in a random pattern — it’s a design risk, but the payoff is well worth it. Keep the rest of the look simple — with a glossy white envelope — to draw the eye to the fashionable flooring.

Heritage Charm
Every room deserves to feel decorated (yes, even the bathroom), and in 2020, we will be drawing inspiration from decades past. An intricate, Old World-inspired chandelier, vintage rug and brass towel rack exudes heritage charm.
