Designer Color Palette: Navy & Pink

Executive editor Kimberley Brown shares the colors inspiring her this season.
DesignEd_Stock_2014_Kimberley_0487Of the many quips people like to quote from legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland, her remark that “Pink is the navy blue of India” might be the most repeated.  As a result, these two colors are forever linked in the world of style. Luckily, the pairing is as complex and inspiring as Vreeland herself. Rooms decorated in deep moody blues mixed with pinks ranging from pale to “pow!” range from sweet to sophisticated, but are always stunning. Here’s three designer takes on the duo:

For an eye-popping spot of color, designer Frances Merrill rolled out a bright magenta pink rug in the dining room of a house in the Hollywood Hills, then balanced its boldness by wrapping the walls in a moody colorway of Cole & Son’s Fornasetti II Chiavi Segrete wallpaper.

In her own Ann Arbor, Michigan house, designer Krista Nye Schwartz painted a bedroom’s walls delicate blush pink to pick up the rosey hues in her layers of embroidered and block print bedding. A top layer in a simple indigo and white pattern gives the eye a place to rest. (Fun fact: Krista lived with her parents in India for a year when she was a kid.)
