Shops We Love: Poppytalk
Named after the influential lifestyle and design blog that business and life partners Jan Halvarson and Earl Einarson founded in 2005, the brick-and-mortar venture invites customers to experience Poppytalk’s vision of “the beautiful, the decayed and the handmade” firsthand. Since opening as a store and workshop, Poppytalk has quickly become a hub for DIY crafters, local artisans and fans of the shop’s winsome wares. “We wanted to bring the blog into the real world and actually meet people,” says Einarson.
The former motorcycle shop was lightened and brightened with coats of white paint, but its original plank ceiling, naturally worn hardwood floors and free-spirited vibe have been lovingly preserved. Imbued with wabi-sabi charm, Poppytalk’s collection of Rifle Paper Co. prints and calendars, Dahlhaus dip-dyed ceramics and dreamy Hatchetmade shibori pillows show a handmade touch, while vintage typewriters and ’60s amplifiers inspire nostalgia.
Located at 109 East Broadway, Vancouver.
