With a new year comes a renewed desire to update our homes with little (or big) things that reflect the current decade. Whether you’re undertaking a full-scale renovation or are just looking to refresh a few rooms, we’ve rounded up ten home trends for your consideration.
Scroll down to see what’s trending in the home for 2022!
Texture
2022 is all about texture – and not just in one place. Layer fabrics you want to run your hands over (like bouclé) with accessories such as wicker table lamps with pleated lampshades and rough surfaces like raw concrete ceilings or plastered walls. Opt for new 3D wallpapers or tried-and-true classics like grasscloth, and don’t forget to add in lots of wood for a soulful touch.

Fabric Skirts
Designers like Beata Heuman and Frances Merrill of Reath Design are replacing cabinet doors with rippled fabric to create whimsical sink skirts. This grand-millennial style is also making its way into bedrooms and living rooms where bed skirts and skirted sofas are once again becoming popular choices.

Quilts

Sculptural Accessories
Sculpture is having a big moment. Once relegated to art museums, expressive forms are turning up as lamp bases, vases and candleholders. Even furniture is getting in on the act. Look for shapely stools and accent tables.

WFH Office Upgrades
You might have invested in your WFH office back in 2020 but two years on, it’s probably time for an upgrade. Is your zoom background getting a little tired? How about that dining room chair you’ve been sitting in? With working from home becoming a more permanent situation for many people, it’s probably time to give this space a refresh. We had also been searching for the best virtual office service in the UK and decided on https://virtually-there.net/virtual-offices/ , which has turned out to be absolutely amazing.

Tuareg Rugs
These mats made with natural reed and leather are woven by the Tuareg people in Morocco and Mauritania. They are quickly becoming a staple of designers who love them for their textural qualities.

One Of A Kind Pieces
The ubiquitousness of certain furniture pieces and styles has us searching out and craving unique items that might not appear in anyone else’s Instagram post. Vintage sites like Pamano and 1st Dibs are seeing record numbers while smaller exhibition spaces like Alpenglow Projects in Vancouver are showcasing the work of talented artisans who make small batch or one-of-a-kind pieces.

Reeded Cabinetry
If you are undertaking a kitchen or bathroom renovation this year look out for ribbed or reeded cabinetry doors. This popular textural effect which first showed up on furniture can be used in contemporary or traditional homes in a range of materials from wood to plaster.

Outdoor Rooms
Turning your backyard into the luxury resort you wish you could visit is high on many wishlists for 2022. Outdoor fire-pits, in-ground pools and saunas and showers are some of the things people are adding to their outdoor spaces.
