Editor’s Picks: 10 Accessories For A Happier Home

Senior editor Sally Armstrong shares her favorite cheerful home accessories.
Whether its bright colors, an unusual shape or a quirky detail, lighthearted decor never fails to bring a smile to my face. Here are some sweet picks in stores now that are sure to bring a little joy into your home (and who couldn’t use more of that?).

I can’t resist a pom-pom, especially one in a bright, juicy color. Pehr’s cotton-canvas Pom Pom bin will bring a dash of whimsy to neutral rooms, and creates the perfect spot to stash toys, throws and clutter.

This unique decorative bowl is crafted out of recycled magazines by female artisans in Swaziland, Africa. Its zig zag pattern and sunny yellow and electric blue hues will instantly brighten up a tabletop, and knowing you’re supporting the work of these women — and their families — will surely brighten your day.

Keep your counters and workspaces tidy with this petite brush from Brook Farm General Store. Its oiled beechwood handle is carved into a fun hedgehog shape, so you’ll be tempted to leave it out on display.

These removable vinyl wall stickers from Ferm Living go up in minutes, and lend white walls a lively, youthful look. I particularly love the bright pink colorway.

Metallic touches have a way of making everyday items feel extra special. Every time you set your glass on one of these ornate, screen-printed coasters from John Robshaw you’ll see a fantastic flash of gold.

Thanks to its quirky rounded base, the Balance Box from Umbra playfully tilts from side to side whenever you add or remove pieces of jewelry, paper clips or other small items.

Eye-catching tea towels are a quick, inexpensive and low-commitment way to bring joyful pattern and color into your kitchen. This vibrant cotton tea towel from Brika is one of my current favorites.

This gold-leafed lamp from Anthropologie is a really funny and eccentric piece. I like how its simple white shade tempers the look a bit.

The unusual shape of this steel shelf is based on the sound wave generated by the word “bliss.” Nifty dips and rises create unique spots to set your favorite books.

With its tiny beechwood lighthouse, islands and finishing boat, this beautiful Norwegian-made toy set evokes memories of a range of coastal settings. I can’t help but smile when I admire its simple, childlike design.
