Hotel style was, at one time in the not-so-distant past, a singular look: crisp, tailored bedding with black piping, a neutral colour scheme, dark modern furniture, few, if any, accessories. The pared-back look meant that walking into a hotel room was like entering a serene escape called “away.”
Now, chic, international hotels are taking a page from Airbnb’s book, making rooms and common areas the opposite of impersonal with layers of quirky details. Spaces look like they came together over time and often include handpicked details such as mismatched textiles, vintage ceramics, record players and stacks of vinyl.
