We’ve all been there: you check the calendar and suddenly realize Christmas is around the corner. The tree isn’t up, the presents aren’t bought — and panic ensues. Well, not this year. In collaboration with Mosaic Homes , Canadian designer and blogger Monika Hibbs decorated two West Coast townhouses for the holidays, and she shares nine last-minute holiday decorating ideas that you can do this weekend. Scroll down and get inspired!
1. Create Christmas Curb Appeal
“A DIY wreath is an easy way to make a festive first impression over the holidays. Use natural elements like pinecones and greenery to create a beautiful and aromatic wreath that can be used multiple ways — hang this from your front door, or use it as a centerpiece!”
2. Pick A Theme
“Whether it’s a white country Christmas, or a modern minimalist look, picking a theme and staying to it will help create a cohesive look.”
3. Play With Textures
“Mixing textures like velvet and silk help to elevate a look and add a unique surprise to a room.”
4. Keep It Cozy
“Substituting your regular throw blankets or pillows for holiday-themed accents is an easy way to keep your home fun and warm.”
5. Add Your Personal Touch
“Mix in bulbs you’ve collected over the years or homemade ornaments to keep your holiday decor authentically you.”
6. Use Live Elements
“Incorporating greenery , especially with holiday decorating, brings a rustic, fresh look and scent to any room.”
7. Decorate Every Corner
“Create holiday vignettes through your home — on your kitchen counter, on shelves, on your coffee table or even on a console at your entry. When creating your vignettes, think of creating scenes of three to five items with different heights. This tip will help with not over cluttering your space. Simple is best.”
8. Fill Your Home With Sweets
“The week of Christmas, display baked goods on your kitchen island or counter. I love how a freshly baked gingerbread house or cookies can be added to your holiday decor.”

9. Light It Up
“Don’t forget to bring in the scent of pine or any other festive aromas by lighting your favourite seasonal candle. This, of course, will also add a cozy and welcoming feel to your home.”
