The Berlin bloggers behind Our Food Stories , Laura Muthesius and Nora Eisermann, have some serious design chops as well as cooking skills. Their latest project in Skåne, Sweden, is a master class in honoring the original bones of a kitchen while renovating. The town is dotted with fishing boats, white sandy beaches, apple blossoms and farmers’ markets, and this home is equally charming. Brimming with original features, all that was required for this character-driven gathering place were owners that would see the potential, and love it again. Scroll down to learn more about this Swedish kitchen!
The kitchen is at the center of this light and airy Scandinavian home with whitewashed floorboards and ceilings, and an eclectic mix of vintage and mid-century furniture. It features deVOL Haberdasher’s cupboards , a series of stand-alone modular cupboards inspired by traditional English haberdasheries with their rows of lift-up oak cubbyholes full of ribbons and buttons, patterns and fabrics, and soft balls of wool.
This unique prep table has laminated oak curves and turned legs reminiscent of mid-century styling.
A striking fireplace gives this room major ambience, along with a mix of open and closed storage, glazed drawers and built-in niches for firewood. The slim Smeg fridge tucks in between a door and window, so there is plenty of room for vignettes on the shelves.
A beautiful AGA cookier is a must-have in authentic European country kitchens. Copper pots and linen aprons are kept handy and a black sconce pops against the white brick walls.
The kitchen, dining and living room area are painted with chalk paint from Kalklitir in Calce which is a perfect match for the pinky Estremoz marble counters.
The marble sink from deVOL kitchens has a fluted apron front to pick up the tambour-style slatted panels which conceal essential appliances.
A 90 cm cooker from the Bertazzoni professional series delivers a quality cooking and baking experience for the food bloggers, who specialize in gluten-free baking. “We love the modern yet timeless design and the beautiful details like the gas burners in brass,” says Laura and Nora. “As our range cooker is at a position where the floor is slightly uneven, we were so relieved to find out that Bertazzoni has also different legs for the range cookers — such a big plus.”
Tambour-style slatted oak breaks up the closed faces of the drawer fronts and surface. Firewood is stored on the rustic open display below.
Oak cupboards, glazed display units and aged brass fittings contribute to the warm feel of this kitchen which overlooks both the dining area and living room.
The custom aged-copper counter and warm oak cabinets have plenty of textural interest.
Oak cupboards with glazed drawer fronts show off favorite linens and crockery. The doors are reinforced by handcrafted aged brass frames with integrated pivot hinges.
Library-style label pulls are affixed to drawers which store linens (and keep them aired out). A one-coat tinted oil finish on the cabinets means knocks or scrapes can be seamlessly repaired with ease.
