A former school teacher, Nicole Salceda of Eye for Pretty specializes in creating polished homes with functional elements. “My design style is hard to nail down because it’s constantly evolving, but I like to think of it as California Casual,” she says. “Fresh and bright spaces with clean lines and soft textures.” One of her latest projects is a single storey 4,000-square-foot-home that was completely remodelled.

In the serene sitting room, a cast stone fireplace is flanked by two sconces from Visual Comfort , while slanted ceilings add architectural interest.
The sloped ceilings continue into the kitchen, where a massive plaster hood draws the eye up. The oversized island was designed to accommodate the clients’ love of entertaining.
A combination of black and brass accents can be seen throughout, including the show-stopping range, black pendant lights and brass faucets.
The unlacquered brass finish of the faucets and fixtures add warmth and elegance to the space.
Closed cabinetry keeps kitchen items hidden away, while open shelves offer easy access to everyday dishes.
A bar off the kitchen is made of rift oak, stained in a similar hue to the floors to create a cohesive look. A brass library-style light ties in with the brass hardware.
The mudroom is a pretty and functional space that features brick herringbone floors and black cabinets. The art is from Nicole’s home shop Eye For Pretty At Home
The dining room has a modern farmhouse-inspired feel, with a large oak dining table, exposed wood ceiling beams, tongue and groove panelling and linen drapes.
For a change of scene, the powder room features moody dark walls that create a romantic and cozy vibe. A thick quartzite vanity countertop and sink feels luxe.
A beautiful double bathroom features greige-colored reeded cabinets, arched mirrors and a cabinet tower in the middle to store beauty products.
The arch motif is carried into the shower, where a bench and shower nook add style and function.
Beautiful sightlines throughout are enhanced with pretty light fixtures and gorgeous runners.
Another well-considered sightline into the laundry room proves no room was overlooked.
Slanted ceilings with exposed wood ceiling beams give the principal bedroom architectural interest.
The light and airy palette and neutral textiles give the room a soothing ambience.
In the spacious principal bathroom, a mix of mirrors create two distinct spaces along one wall.
