A White & Wood Kitchen With Tailored Farmhouse Style
Published on October 10, 2019

With three preteen boys, a large extended family and a love of cooking and entertaining, homeowner Renata Roti knew she needed a hardworking kitchen. “She wanted to feel like she was part of the party, so the kitchen had to have views to the adjoining great room and have plenty of space,” says designer Barbara Purdy. Beautiful wooden beams, an open-concept layout, durable countertops and ample storage means this family-friendly hub can handle both casual weeknight dinners and holiday hosting.

Reclaimed wood ceiling beams and wide-plank white oak flooring were stained to add a rustic counterpoint to the mostly white space.

“The vent hood is made of cold-rolled steel with a buffed finish that makes it resemble zinc,” says Barbara. The mix of materials creates a soulful and curated space that’s not too stark or too rustic.

Windows were left uncovered to highlight the view of the wooded property and the pool. “The pendant looks great against all that green — it’s like sitting in a treehouse,” she says.

The same stained white oak and Caesarstone countertops that appear on the kitchen island were used in the butler’s pantry.

A separate area adjacent to the island has a small wine fridge and faucet so it can function as a coffee station in the morning and a bar area for parties.

A more elegant take on the usual appliance garage, a cabinet door in the kitchen lifts up to reveal Renata’s collection of baking appliances.
