Designer Kate Thornley-Hall takes us through her renovated 1870s ski chalet in Collingwood, Ontario, which has been transformed into a rustic retreat. Get her decorating tips for creating a cozy, cabin-style space complete with wool flat-weave rugs, vintage finds and reclaimed wood.

Kate started by extending the back of the cabin to create additional space for her family of five, as well as a cozy entryway that welcomes you to the mudroom. The open-concept main room includes the kitchen, dining and living room, making it the hub for entertaining. In the kitchen, a standout marble countertop steals the show. Pops of red, Hudson’s Bay stripes and a maple leaf print carpet inject a Canadian note into the living room, while a crystal deer head chandelier above the pine dining table adds glam. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a French chalet feel to it with bird wallpaper and matching curtains.
