Designer Kate Thornley-Hall takes us through her renovated 1870s ski chalet in Collingwood, Ontario, which has been transformed into a rustic retreat. Get her decorating tips for creating a cozy, cabin-style space complete with wool flatweave rugs, vintage finds and reclaimed wood.

Kate started by extending the back of the cabin to create additional space for her family of five, as well as a cozy entryway that welcomes you to the mudroom. The open-concept main room includes the kitchen, dining and living room, making it the hub for entertaining. In the kitchen, a standout marble countertop steals the show. Pops of red, Hudson’s Bay stripes and a maple leaf print carpet inject a Canadian note into the living room, while a crystal deer head chandelier above the pine dining table adds glam. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a French chalet feel to it with bird wallpaper and matching curtains.
