Toronto photographer Tara McMullen and designer, author and HGTV host Tiffany Pratt show off Tara’s bright, small condo in the Distillery District. At less than 600-square-feet, the builder-basic condo needed a punch of personality and a functional layout. Learn Tiffany’s tricks for visually expanding the small space.

Personal touches are sprinkled throughout the space, with a collection of Tara’s grandmother’s spoons hung on the wall in the kitchen, a display of organic plants intermixed with artifacts from Tara’s life, and a collage-style wall of eclectic prints in the dining room. Painting the inside of the front door a bold yellow — Tara’s signature color — adds a fun touch. Tiffany ripped out the laminate floors and used glossy white epoxy on the surface beneath to create luminosity from the ground up. The kitchen cabinets were also painted white, and the popcorn ceiling was removed to reveal concrete, offering an industrial edge. The condo’s only bathroom makes a statement with birch wallpaper, layered mirrors and quirky pieces of artwork.
