The Plant condo, an innovative 10-storey building planned for Toronto’s hip Queen West neighborhood, is a dream for urban gardeners. Esteemed designer John Tong of +tongtong shares a closer look at the project, revealing some key features that make the space so unique.

Focused on the idea of growing plants in an urban context, The Plant condos are designed with a wide and shallow layout, instead of a long and narrow one, to maximize the sun’s rays. In the kitchen, a full-height pantry and a hanging rack for pots and pans maximizes storage. There’s also a buggy with an herb garden built into the island, as well as a counter-height dining table for additional seating and prep space. The den has glass doors, keeping the units bright and airy. The bathrooms are designed to be ultra-functional while taking cues from the rest of the suite’s modern, industrial design.
