Carly Nemtean of Carriage Lane Design-Build Inc. shares how she transformed a small home into a functional and contemporary space for a young family.

With two dogs and a baby, the homeowners wanted something that would fit their lifestyle without compromising style. Carly started by creating an open-concept layout and relocating the rooms. The kitchen is the hub of the home, so Carly focussed on comfort in addition to utility. Stained wood and white cabinets with shaker details act as furniture against a shimmering herringbone backsplash. In the dining area, a modern glass chandelier hangs above a custom table, while the family room features a blue mid-century modern accent chair for a playful touch. The front entryway’s floor tiles are an ode to old Montreal and European streets, and will add patina to the space over time.
