Tree-Trimming Idea: Handmade Ornaments
Published on December 22, 2015
Senior editor Morgan Michener gives a glimpse of her handmade Christmas tree ornaments and shares how to get the look.
When I was a little girl, my family started the tradition of exchanging handmade ornaments. It was always so much fun to see what everyone had come up with. Sometimes they were sewn, others were beaded or hand carved … and they were all absolutely magic. Giving something created by hand made the idea of gifting so simple and thoughtful.
I am now the curator of this collection and have to say that unboxing these amazing ornaments every year is such a joy. Here is a peek at our Christmas tree this year.
This lovely hand beaded snowflake was a gift from an early exchange. I have a few of them and love how they catch the light.
This snow fairy was made from a wooden clothes peg, then dressed in lace and painted. Her hair is a simple cotton ball. My daughter loves placing her on the tree.
This guy is pretty special, too. Sewn from gold fabric and with a green sequin eye, he’s a real treasure.
Try making your own ornaments this year – it’s a great way to spend Christmas Day with the kids while watching movies in the background and sipping hot chocolate. Here are some easy DIY projects that will make your tree all the more special.
