Colour Spotlight: This Silvery Shade Of Green Will Get You In The Mood For Fall
Updated on January 8, 2024

Emerald has been all the rage lately, but it’s time for softer, more saturated greens to move into the spotlight. Moody and understated, juniper stands apart with its grey overtones, bringing depth and dimension to rooms. The versatile hue plays well with warm wood tones, making it a fit for both traditional and contemporary homes. “Green shades are every popular, but Juniper, a silvery version, feels news!” says H&H’s Deputy Editor Emma Reddington. Splash this green on the walls to contrast with your white oak floors, or complement a wood dining table with linens in this cool, organic hue.

If you’re going for a vintage feel, juniper’s subtle tone accents the warmth of gilded frames and antique furniture, as seen in this dining room filled with mahogany flea market finds.

In the same home designed by Colin Blanchard & Kenneth McRobbie of 31 Westgate, silvery green walls and drapes act as neutrals in the primary bedroom and the result is supremely restful.

Varying shades of juniper establish a soothing atmosphere that’s perfect for a nursery. Designer Hali MacDonald layered together silvery green drapes and a deep green ottoman.

Designer Saphho Griffin’s Bedford, N.S home is full of East Coast charm. The primary bedroom gets its personality from colorful bed textiles, while light green walls ground the space in calmness.

In a graphic black and white space, green is a lively, organic counterpoint that softens the high contrast. “The mudroom is my favorite room in the whole house,” says designer Jamie Deck who loves to play up green with greenery. See more of this French-inspired Vancouver home here.

Using juniper to paint out the mouldings is a cocooning way to play up the serenity of this shade. Gillian Segal envelops this sleek living room in green, choosing tonal roman blinds and a cushy chair with mod Lucite legs.
