This Dream Kitchen’s Timeless Design Will Last For Decades
Published on May 10, 2018

At 924 square feet, this renovated kitchen by designer Elizabeth Metcalfe is generous — but no space is wasted. Hardworking zones, including an oversized island and office nook, make the room a breeze to navigate, while a mix of natural materials, such as white oak planks on the tray ceiling and oiled walnut on the island, creates an inviting ambience perfect for entertaining and family life.
Custom features including a wine storage wall and an artful light fixture cap off the distinctive yet timeless design. “I feel we captured the owners’ belief that quality is about more than a price tag or name brand,” Elizabeth adds. “It’s about something that will look beautiful for decades to come.” Click through to see the stunning space.

Homeowner Dagmar O’Hanlon, an avid cook, by the central island. The light fixture overhead was made by Toronto’s Ridgely Studio Works. “Its grand scale makes a strong design statement,” says Elizabeth.

A Lacanche range and custom hood make a luxe focal point.

Lacquered cabinetry conceals the refrigerator.

Refrigerated cupboards under the display cabinets keep wine at the perfect temperature.

Dinner party planning is a snap, thanks to a small inset office lined with pretty wallpaper and cookbook storage.

A built-in bar area, with a modern round sink and articulating faucet, is ideal for cocktail prep.
