Tour A Black & White Bathroom Adorned With Marble
Published on July 23, 2019

Despite its modern appearance, this sleek and graphic principal bathroom resides in an impressive old stone home in Westmount, Montreal. Architect and interior designer Martha Franco, who specializes in working with these kinds of buildings, says her inspiration came from outside, rather than inside. “It’s all about glorifying the view,” she says. “When the owners brush their teeth, they get a magnificent view of the city.”

The streamlined double vanity doesn’t steal focus from the luxury of a bathroom with four deep-set windows.

A marble mosaic accent wall behind the tub delivers textural contrast with the richly veined marble tiles lining the floors and walls.

Little luxuries — like a gilded candle and ceramic dish filled with bath salt — create a spa-like experience at home.

On creating a room that balances what fits the building itself and the rest of the remodelled house, Martha says, “It’s like a cocktail; you need the right mix!”

You can easily enjoy the views from the seamless glass shower. A slim, linear drain doesn’t distract from the impact of a shower big enough for two.
