British fashion and interior designer Pearl Lowe — who is also the former singer in Britpop band Powder — was part of the infamous party crowd, the Primrose Hill set, which included the likes of Kate Moss and Jude Law. Things have calmed down a lot since Pearl relocated to Somerset 10 years ago. She and her husband, Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, recently bought a beachside home in East Sussex and she’s unveiling her dreamy kitchen. Scroll down to take a peek inside!
Built in the 1940s for an artist whose shell sculptures are still dotted around the garden, the house and adjacent cabins have been lovingly restored by Pearl. With a little help from deVOL Kitchens , Pearl has created another beautiful kitchen (deVOL also worked on the kitchen in Pearl’s circa-1825 stone country house in Somerset) using cupboards from the company’s Real Shaker Kitchen range .
A deVOL fluted sink and a luminescent marble counter keep the kitchen feeling airy and light. Mixing unpainted wood with creamy headboard gives a rustic, cottage flair.
Leaving the wood frame unpainted brings attention to the window, which is dressed with lace curtains that softly filter the light. Pearl has an address book of vintage haunts and hideaway places to ensure she has a never-ending supply of textiles, furniture, quirky, unusual objects and decorative ornaments.
“We installed a Bertazzoni and Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and fridge, all incredible! We have painted the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Pointing , and painted the floor in Little Greene Paint Company in Linen Wash ,” notes Pearl on her Instagram feed .
Curtains add another soft touch to the kitchen. Warm metal fixtures and copper pots suspended from the ceiling give a mellow, burnished glow to the space.
This Shaker kitchen is simply designed, just one long run of ‘Linen’ cupboards. Pearl and Danny chose handmade Cotes Mill Tiles for the backsplash because they are tactile, pale and have a beachy feel to them. A Haberdasher ‘s wall cupboard and open shelving offer extra storage.
A ‘Scullery Yellow’ prep table with a copper worktop helps define the kitchen from the sitting area, equipped with a comfy leather sofa. The whitewashed, wide-planked floors are dressed simply with softly worn rugs.
Dreamy star pendants are suspended from the rafters, and there’s also a disco ball for a bit of rock and roll edge. The house may have been a lifelong dream for the couple, who have always loved the solace of water. A white armoire is given the romantic treatment with lacy textiles.
