Before & After: See A Tired Entryway Transform Into A Country Chic Mudroom
When you’re a busy family, having a separate entrance for shoes, jackets, backpacks or sports equipment is ideal. The homeowners of this Cape Cod-style home in Rose Valley, PA were lacking the flow and function they needed in a mudroom, and called upon designer Libby Rawes of Sharp + Grey Interiors to help them reimagine the space. See how Libby maximized style and function by relocating the laundry room, taking out a wall and transforming the adjoining powder room.

When it came to the overall look and feel of the newly designed mudroom, Libby took cues from the board and batten exterior. The side entrance is where the family and guests primarily enter the home, so they knew they wanted a space that would feel beautiful and bright the moment you walk through the door.
The transition from outdoors to in feels seamless with an all-white space that features board and batten walls, beadboard ceilings, and a wood door that adds texture and warmth. Slate floor tiles in a herringbone pattern add a contemporary element to the country-style room.

The previous room featured a washer and dryer at the entrance which become a catch-all for keys, bags and miscellaneous items. Libby maximized space by swapping the laundry for a built-in bench with a closet and cubby space.
Having a mix of open and closed storage means the busy family can now hide shoes and jackets, while storing everyday items in baskets and on hooks. The bench provides a spot to sit down and unwind at the end of a long day, which is another major upgrade from the previous room that lacked seating.
By removing a wall, Libby created a beautiful sightline from the family room into the mudroom, which now brings in tons of natural light.
A spacious powder room off the entrance was lacking storage and personality. Starting with the walls, Libby revitalized the sterile white space by adding wainscotting in a deep blue-green hue, and delicate floral wallpaper above.
A wood vanity ties the space together and offers ample storage for toiletries and cleaning supplies. Traditional elements like wall sconces, wallpaper and wainscotting are juxtaposed by a modern gunmetal faucet and matte black accents.
