6 Easy Holiday Stylist Tricks To Try Now

Spread cheer all around the house with six easy stylist tricks.

Layering your bed with rustic-motif sheets, and bold pillows and throws makes a long winter’s nap seem like an even more inviting proposition. A buffalo-check wool blanket, pinecone-print sheets and plush rug put an emphasis on soft textures, and conjure up a wintry, log-cabin vibe.

Fill a mini sack with luxe toiletries for overnight guests. Buy a ready-made gift bag from a craft store, or sew your own with two squares of velvet and a satin drawstring.

Craft some celebratory crackers to suit your home’s palette. Placing them casually in a bowl lets guests choose the cracker that speaks to them the most. For step-by-step instructions, click here.

Instead of setting the mood with an iTunes playlist, let your guests flip through classic holiday albums — the festive cover art alone is decorative — to choose their favourite songs or EPs.

Display toppings in an array of glass vessels (canisters, footed bowls, jars) to capture the appeal of an old-fashioned candy store. Allow guests to take their drinks to indulgent new heights with a selection of peppermint and cinnamon sticks, bowls of whipped cream, chocolate chips, shredded coconut and classic mini marshmallows.

Some holiday cards are too pretty or nostalgic just to toss. Give them a second life by turning them into graphic gift tags (and keep the written note intact). Use a large circle punch to create the tag, then punch a smaller hole at the top and thread on a ribbon.
