It’s the perfect time of year to curl up somewhere with your favorite magazine and a warming winter drink. Here are some charming mugs I’ve spotted in the shops recently that are made for snowy mornings and chilly nights. (And if you’re still working on your holiday shopping, any one of them would a pretty and practical present for a friend — or yourself!)
The delicate design of this stoneware mug from Anthropologie was inspired by watercolor paintings. A rim of real gold makes it feel a bit special.
This delicate yet modern glass mug by iconic designer Paola Navone really caught my eye, and is available at a great price point.
Even though the beautiful abstract design on this Marimekko mug is meant to represent rain clouds and fog, I think it would brighten up anyone’s morning!
This simple, but lovely Limoges porcelain mug from tabletop line Mud Australia has the brand’s trademark matte finish on the outside and a glazed finish on the inside. Great for the minimalists in your life.
Designer Dede Johnston is a fine art photographer and avid skier. Her photograph “Crowded Slopes” inspired her to create a collection of bone china, including this sweet mug.
This stoneware mug from Scandi retailer Ferm Living is inspired by the geometric shapes of Bauhaus design, and features a handsome grey glaze.

Handcrafted in Santander, Colombia, this ceramic mug from La Merceria incorporates local clay and glaze.
This terracotta mug from Canvas Home also has a charming handmade quality to it, and the blue rim and lines around its base add subtle detail.
Finally, my top pick. This porcelain mug from ABC Carpet & Home is a splurge, but I love its simple design and dusty pink colour that’s sophisticated yet modern. Plus, its coated with a shimmery glaze that reflects light beautifully.
