Maria Sharapova’s New Furniture Collection Is A Lesson In Simplicity

As one of only a handful of elite female players in the world to win five Grand Slam tennis titles, Maria Sharapova is not resting on her laurels. Recently retired, the Russian-born athlete has embraced her love of design and nature through a limited-edition collaboration with Vancouver furniture company, Rove Concepts. “Through travel, I was able to find my passion for art and architecture, especially an appreciation for the simplicity of Japanese design,” she explains. Scroll down for a closer look at the new six-piece collection!

The collection includes multi-functional, mid-century modern pieces that convey relaxation — a perfect fit for the new L.A. digs she shares with her fiancé, British art dealer Alexander Gilkes.

“I wanted a sofa where I could have friends and family over to enjoy beautiful moments,” says the tennis star of her minimalist Maria Sofa, comprised of a walnut frame, chic brushed brass legs and plush velvet upholstery that comes in soft shades of either blush, olive green or pewter.

A textured off-white weave and brushed gray felt are also available.

The Maria Bench is a sophisticated piece that’s a companion to the sofa; perfect for extra seating in a living room, at the foot of a bed or in the foyer.

Maria’s dedication to perfection and entrepreneurial savvy came out during her intensive research when designing her home. “I had a hand in every detail,” she laughs (including the basement bowling alley!).

The sculptural coffee table was inspired by Maria’s preference for clean lines and organic elements from nature, and her love of cool concrete.

The Maria Lamp has a linen shade and a walnut stand; it’s anchored by a sculptural concrete base that echoes the tables in the collection.

Available in various sizes, the Maria Area Rug is composed of natural woven hemp in a delicate raised fringe design.
