Meet House & Home’s New Editor-in-Chief, Emma Reddington!

Many know Emma Reddington from her years as an exhibition designer at Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario, or her time as the home editor of Chatelaine, or here at House & Home producing beautiful special issues and those lush room sets for Shop House & Home. But you may not know that this West Coast native is also a trained chef, a social media influencer with more than 3.5 million Pinterest followers, and she’s just written a book, Nomad: Designing a Home for Escape and Adventure, that will be released this year by Artisan Books.
In honor of her new role as editor-in-chief, Emma shares what she’s loving right now, her biggest design mistake (and how to fix it) and more!

“I’m loving this deep green called Backwoods by Benjamin Moore right now. I used it in my recent bathroom renovation.”

“Falling for items that don’t fit the look of your house. It happens to the best of us. Before you buy, ask yourself where you’re going to put it and try and visualize it in your house. If it doesn’t work put it down and walk away. I have Pinterest boards filled with furniture and lighting that I love but don’t suit the current style of my house. Learn to love from afar!”

“Rattan. Although, it’s not really a trend. It never goes out of style.”

“@shelterprotectsyou. Designers Rob Maddox and Karie Reinertson always find something strangely beautiful to showcase on their feed.”

“A good knife and a speaker to listen to CBC or podcasts. I just picked up this BeoPlay speaker in moss green and I’m really impressed with the quality of the sound.”

“Enjoy your own party! Don’t be the hostess who spends all her time cleaning up plates, pouring drinks and emptying the trash.”

“Art. Followed by lighting that makes a statement. It’s one of the easiest ways to dramtically transform your home. I’m partial to anything by Isamu Noguchi.”

“That’s almost an impossible question to answer but these two are the first that came to mind. This New York City loft by Studio Giancarlo Valle is up there.”

“And I can’t stop day dreaming about this dining room on Park Avenue by Studio DB.”

“A home in the Sea Ranch community north of San Francisco. I’d also be perfectly happy in an A-frame on top of a mountain in the interior of British Columbia.”

“Toronto Raptors Kawhi Leonard jersey for my son, but I’ve got my eyes on these clogs.”
