Shop Like An Editor: 10 Outdoor Rugs To Complete Your Summer Patio

Senior editor Sally Armstrong shares her favorite outdoor rugs this season.
An outdoor rug can really bring a patio look home. Rugs help define a seating or dining area — especially in an open-concept outdoor space, where creating zones is essential. These days, there are great options for outdoor rugs that rival the look of indoor rugs, but are built to withstand weather. Not only do they look great, but they are super easy to maintain — just shake off the leaves or hose it down with water. Here are some stylish options to consider when planning your outdoor living space.

This yellow number would make a cheerful, playful addition to your backyard. Line up two or three beside each other to create an area rug.

How about this? A piece of art for your garden! It’s 100% polypropylene, so will withstand all of the elements in style.

If you’re a traditionalist at heart, this bordered, jute look-alike rug is the one for you. (It’s actually made of 100% polyester.)

Like a little black dress, this black-and-white striped rug is a classic. Trés chic!

Inspired by a traditional kilim weave, this graphic, eco-friendly rug is made from 100% PET, a polyester fiber made from recycled plastic bottles.

If you want to color-coordinate with your lawn, this preppy and fresh rug is the perfect pick.

For something more subtle, this tone-on-tone rug is a great option. The amazing texture of the diamond pattern is what makes it special, and the charcoal hue would make light-colored furniture really stand out.

Safavieh’s Courtyard grey-and-navy rug has a nice, worn-in look to it — like an old pair of denim jeans.

Blue and white stripes are always popular outdoors, but this rug’s red feels very “Nantucket.” It would look lovely in a rustic setting and pair beautifully with wicker-style furniture.

This rug is a good basic option that feels up to date with its chunky weave, which is hand-crocheted with polypropylene. It’s available in this charcoal color, as well as a neutral, sand color.
