Updated on February 26, 2021

Our new motto? The bolder, the better! Whether it’s dramatic veining or unique materials, today’s countertops, backsplashes and islands are making a strong statement. Go beyond the kitchen by bringing statement stone onto your headboard, chimney breast and bathroom floor. Scroll down to see gorgeous slabs that double as artwork!

A backlit onyx headboard brings plenty of drama to this moody bedroom, while brushed brass table lamps and a gilded chandelier add to the warm palette.

Big risk equals big reward in this living room, where an icy blue marble chimney breast anchors the space. A cobalt channeled sofa ties the look together and feels very of-the-moment.

“We framed the window including the jamb in a slab material,” says designer Carey Mudford of this bold kitchen. “It’s very clean-looking.” She also added LEDs for extra drama at night.

Inspired by the rocky terrain surrounding this contemporary cottage, floor-to-ceiling stone with dramatic veining feels like an extension of the outdoors.

Designer Luke Havekes opted for warm wood and blue-gray veined marble in his 1980s Montreal condo kitchen. The backsplash perfectly contrasts with the stunning wood cabinetry, made by Quebec artisans.

This eye-catching marble-look porcelain flooring commands attention in Snob founder Denise Zidel’s bathroom. She arranged the tile in a mismatched pattern for even more wow-factor.

Ciot’s Blanc de Blanc granite is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before! It’s the perfect option for a kitchen because not only is it beautiful to look at but it’s also extremely durable and heat resistant.

You can’t get more lavish than an Iranian Pietra Grey and Tempest Viola marble fireplace. It feels right at home in this light and bright penthouse, accented with the homeowner’s impressive art collection.

When covered in Caesarstone’s Calacatta Maximus, this kitchen island becomes a focal point. The marble’s oversized gold-copper veins add interest to the timeless white background.

Designer Ali Budd turned this petite powder room into a maximalist dream with a pink onyx sink, leopard-print mirror and mesmerizing floral wallpaper.

With forest green cabinetry and a show-stopping display of ruby red china, a heavily-veined marble vent hood, backsplash and countertops are no-brainers.

“It’s very realistic and extremely durable,” says designer Erin Feasby of this graphic kitchen‘s Calacatta marble-look porcelain. The pops of black from the vent hood, ladder and door frames highlight the dark veining.

Heavily-veined marble looks oh-so-luxurious when clad on everything from the vanity to the shower walls. A dark palette feels more moody and modern when paired with a sculptural sconce, like in this lakehouse bathroom by Sloan Mauran.

In this timeless principal bathroom, white porcelain tile is framed with black metal strips for an instant dose of drama. “It’s similar to how a fashion designer might accentuate the seams of a couture dress,” says designer Anne Hepfer.

When paired with cerused white oak cabinetry and raw brass detailing, an earth-toned backsplash reads more trad than modern.

Imagine soaking your stresses away in this sculptural tub set against a wall of book-matched Calacatta marble slabs? You can’t get any more dreamy than that.

“Once we saw the Calacatta Cielo marble, there was no turning back,” says designer Curtis Elmy of this heritage-inspired kitchen. “It’s a big-ticket item, but it’s what makes the kitchen truly unique.”

Designer Nam Dang-Mitchell turned a rental apartment in Calgary into a one-of-a-kind space with silver limestone on everything from the island to the backsplash. “That limestone was my design nucleus; everything else revolved around it,” she says.

Less is more in this high-contrast principal bathroom, where a dramatic marble slab is all the homeowner needed to pack a punch. “I love the white veining and the antiqued finish,” says Jenneh Kearns. “It creates a subtle visual dimension.”

This serene principal bedroom and bathroom is divided by a showstopping double-sided fireplace clad in classic travertine. There’s no better place to keep warm during the colder months!

A durable porcelain stone backsplash and countertops contrast beautifully with the touches of light wood in this century home’s kitchen.

If committing to a full wall of statement stone is a little too risky for your taste, why not try it in smaller doses? Designer Gillian Gillies clad a shower bench in natural quartz which compliments the geometric floor tile and classic white tile on the walls.
