“I’ve always wanted a dark bedroom; I feel completely at home here,” says the owner of this principal suite. Metallic wallpaper on the ceiling is ethereal.

In this principal bedroom, with its soaring ceilings, designer Dee Dee Taylor Hannah added a soft rug and leather upholstery to bring warmth and intimacy. A thread of blue runs throughout the home, creating a sense of continuity. There are bold swathes of green, gold, black, cognac and grey that don’t take a backseat to the breathtaking views out the windows.

This guest bedroom’s streamlined bed and simple yet luxe linens create a peaceful setting. “I feel that color is meant to be explored, so we brought it into every room; there are no white walls,” says Dee Dee. “Rather than create a color scheme, we chose pieces for each room, then built the color palette around them.”

In the principal bedroom of this Montreal home, a luxe marble bedside table is complemented by brass sconces and a dark blue velvet bed frame.

In fashion stylist Erica Wark’s a scalloped chair with a spotted seat is fun with the textured Kelly Wearstler table lamp and leopard-print accent pillow.

“The principal bedroom is my favorite room in the house,” says designer Jennifer Overweel. The custom ceiling fixture is seven feet in diameter. Black-framed windows and light drapes put the focus on the lush greenery outside.

This one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom loft has the Japandi aesthetic Glen Hunt was looking for; it’s sleek but warm, and totally zen. As he likes to say, “Now everything has its place. Including me.”

This principal bedroom is serene in white and shades of grey. Homeowner Joey Diaz’s favorite piece of art, Icarus by Deganit Berest, hangs above the bed. “At first glance, it just looks like dots,” says Joey, “but when you stand far away, you see the feet of the diver.”

“Because this bedroom is much smaller than their previous one, we tried to free up as many surfaces as possible,” says designer Neil Jonsohn. Suspended lights and a slim-profile king-sized bed did the trick.

This principal bedroom’s white linen drapes conceal a closet and serve as a neutral backdrop for the custom checkerboard bed frame.

In the principal suite of the 2022 Princess Margaret showhome designed by Brian Gluckstein, an ebony four-poster bed draws the eye up to the high tray ceiling. A soft palette, rug and upholstered headboard create a serene vibe.

The second bedroom has dramatic angled walls and tonal drapes for a sunny, enveloping effect.

Cheerful yellow and pale blue create a pleasing warm-cool mix in the principal bedroom. Using color and pattern throughout gives the home an exuberant, larger-than-life personality. “I feel like it hugs me the moment I walk in the door,” says the homeowner.

In this Toronto bedroom, the addition of simple, sculptural details in the form of arched doorways and circular motifs imparts softness, for a Mediterranean-inspired take on the old “less is more” design adage.

In this Westmount, Quebec home designed by Michael Godmer, the principal bedroom’s spare furniture and restrained palette are soothing. “Michael really got who we are,” says one client. “This is a very happy home that looks unique and reflects us. I don’t think we could have achieved it without him.” If these walls could talk, they’d probably sigh and say merci.

This principal bedroom’s mohair-upholstered headboard and waterfall bedside tables are vintage inspired yet thoroughly modern. The wallpaper’s soft pinks and purples guided the paint and fabric choices in the principal bedroom. Monica chose blush tones for a luxe, relaxing vibe.

This farmhouse bedroom has 20-foot-high ceilings, reclaimed wood beams and a stunning view. A crystal chandelier exudes elegance.

“A well-lit space with lots of natural light can easily take a black accent wall and still feel fresh,” says Jackie, referring to her client’s guest bedroom, “whereas a room with less natural light will take on a moody vibe.”

A cathedral ceiling and arched picture window lend European flair in this guest bedroom.

A sliding door to the pool was installed in this basement guest bedroom. The shiplap ceiling and simple bed linens have country style.

“Rob prefers a clean, Japanese aesthetic, while I like laid-back, modern California style,” says the homeowner of the mix in this bedroom.

The palette in this bedroom was inspired by the vintage rug. Doors lead to a new deck that overlooks the backyard.

In decorator Tim Lam’s condo bedroom, he had a local carpenter customize two Ikea Pax wardrobes with drawers and shelves in between. A standout bedroom light brings big impact to the small space.

In fashion stylist Tu Ly’s bedroom, a bench is designated exclusively as Hanoi’s bed. Tu jokes that it’s as if the whole house was designed around the silvery blue fur of their beloved British shorthair cat, Hanoi. “He came into our lives three years after we bought the house, but it’s almost like we did the color scheme for him,” he says. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”
