Canadian designer Aly Velji is known for mixing design styles, patterns and textures into his interiors so it’s no surprise that for his collection with Urban Barn Velji decided to travel to faraway places — including back to his roots — for inspiration.

“Wanderlust to me means to be a dreamer, traveller and wanderer.

I always have the urge to wander when I travel and find those unexpected gems to bring back with me, and I wanted this collection to reflect that.” — Aly

A Visit To Palm Springs

Mid-Century modern influences are seen in the sleek, curvy designs of the Wanderlust collection’s armchairs. Whether you prefer a textured bouclé or a bold black and white pattern, their barrelled back style makes a statement from every angle.

Touch Of Victorian

Old-world charm reigns in this ottoman  framed in mango wood and topped with black leather. The ornate bobbin leg design is the perfect example of the Victorian-era’s desire for elaborate details and quality craftsmanship. Its generous size allows it to double as a bench or coffee table.

Ode To Africa

The sculptural quality of this side table takes its cues from traditional African crafts. Made of mango wood, this table’s curved base has a unique round detail at the bottom, adding that ‘something unexpected’ that Aly favors in his travels.

Nod To Neutrals

The collection focuses on graphic shapes and keeps colour to a minimum. “While I’m a lover of patterns and texture and have been known to be quite bold in my choices, that just didn’t suit the collection, says Aly. “It needed muted shades to work.” These softer hues can be seen in the cotton rug and the solid marble of this accent table.

Traditional In Mexico

During his visits to Mexico, Aly encountered classic Spanish architecture. Aluminum candle holders and decorative urns reflect this traditional design style, which is characterized by outdoor courtyards, stucco walls and minimal ornamentation.
