The 2026 Ikea Dream Kitchen Contest Makeover: A ’70s-style Kitchen is Transformed into a Breezy, English-style Space

The winners of the 2026 Ikea Dream Kitchen Contest, Jennifer and Matthew Lee, saw their ’70s kitchen transformed with plenty of functionality, and charming British character. Gillan Atkins and Pooja Kalyanpur of Lynda Reeves Design Studio swept away the tired floral wallpapers and faux-oak cabinets to deliver a white kitchen outfitted with new appliances like a dishwasher (which the original kitchen lacked), gas stove, wine fridge and two Ikea panel-ready fridges. Stacked glass-front cabinets set directly on the counter, a brass pot rail, wicker pendant, and open storage all help convey the English vibe. “It’s pretty classic and I think a look like this is here to stay,” notes Pooja. Ikea storage innovations, like a magic corner for pots and piano interior drawers for cutlery, are practical. “It’s so light and airy, it feels amazing to cook in here,” says Jennifer, who notes her kids sit at the new island while she makes pancakes for them. “It’s really wonderful, and we feel so lucky.” See the full budget breakdown and a list of all the Ikea products in the July/August issue of House & Home.
