Hot Take: Designer Elizabeth Metcalfe Shares Her Preferences & Predictions
Updated on October 27, 2022

“More than ever, clients want their homes to be authentic, personal and unique,” says Toronto designer Elizabeth Metcalfe. Elizabeth is currently designing a luxury condo for an avid art collector and a low-key cottage in northern Ontario. Her new furniture and accessories line is also launching in 2022.
Here, Elizabeth Metcalfe shares her design preferences and gives us a peek at one of her recent projects.

Mood you’d like to create in a house: A curated sense of calm and completeness, with a layered narrative waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
Design motto: Conceptual thinking, curiosity and collaboration produces original and creative design.
Key influence on design trends: I see a huge shift toward artisan-made and one-of-a-kind pieces.
How you decorate for the holidays: A 12-foot natural tree with well over a thousand decorations and hundreds of lights has always been my holiday signature.

Favorite room to design: Bathrooms are part of our daily ritual and have a profound effect on our lives. They should be luxurious and well- appointed with great lighting and unexpected soft furnishings.

Over: White and black rooms with a trendy pop of color.

If you could only buy one more thing for your home: A Scramble floor lamp by Mauro Fabbro.

Item in your home that reflects who you are: A Ginori porcelain hand designed by Gio Ponti. It speaks to my love of the golden age of modern Italian design.
