See how designer Olivia Botrie of Dart Studio turned an impractical great room into a more enjoyable hangout area for a family of four. This kitchen/living room is where the homeowners and kids spend most of their time doing homework, watching TV and cooking, but it wasn’t meeting their needs. The solution? Creating multifunctional spaces! Olivia removed the clunky fireplace and added a patterned banquette (the designer’s style staple), seating area and compact desk. She finished the look off with vinyl grasscloth wallpaper, which is super durable and can easily be cleaned. Plus, learn how the designer modernized the dark and dated kitchen.
