As the founder of Knix, one of Canada’s most beloved and body-positive intimates brands, Joanna Griffiths knows what women want. In her own Toronto bathroom, which she shares with her husband, Dave Barber, Knix’s creative director, craved a private oasis with personality. “Joanna found me on Instagram while she was on a flight,” says designer Shirley Meisels, who oversaw the renovation. “We hit it off right away and were totally in sync with the design.”

Putting function first and frills second, Shirley cleverly fit a freestanding tub, double vanity, makeup table and linen chest in 125 square feet.

There’s even a separate water closet accented with graphic artwork.

The finished space, which has marble-look porcelain tile, delicate fluted details and warm brass hardware, looks good and will wear well. A brass strip connects the different wall treatments.

- Square-cut porcelain tile on floors and walls
