Fresh paint, graphic patterns and vintage furniture — discover designer Emily Griffin’s recipe for family-friendly style on a budget.

Emily painted over the wall’s original dreary colors with a crisp white, and refinished the floors instead of installing new ones. There wasn’t room in the budget to keep the stairs wood, so Emily painted them and added a durable runner to complete the look. A large cotton dhurrie rug from West Elm inspired the living room’s décor. Pops of playful prints liven up the space, while a revamped vintage credenza in midnight blue adds character. Emily transformed the kitchen by repainting the cabinets and replacing the backsplash with affordable porcelain tiles. A floral fabric window covering brings cohesiveness to the new and old finishes.
