Shops We Love: Discover Global-inspired Finds at Montreal’s Coeur d’Artichaut

Nestled in the café-and-boutique laden district of Laurier Est, along Montreal’s Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Coeur d’Artcihaut offers curated objects for the spirited dweller.

Owner Elisheva San Nicolas had a particular vision for the 1,100-square-foot shop that feels more like a flea market than a traditional retail space. “I was seeking to create a unique kind of shopping experience,” she says. “Born into a family of photographers, I was constantly exposed to life through the view of a lens — it was important for me to have a vision.”

While the shop pulls from the neighborhood’s European-style charm, Elisheva’s time spent living in different countries around the world (including her hometown of Mexico City) inspired Coeur d’Artichaut’s globally-minded collections. “I recall strolling with my parents through city streets filled with small shops and imagining myself, one day, as an owner of one,” she says. Private imports are Elisheva’s trademark, travelling at least twice a year to seek new and interesting objects that will shape her newest collections. One-of-a-kind pieces from Tunisia, Italy, Mexico and Bali can be found throughout each curated corner of the shop. “All of the materials and designs of the objects we select are rich and natural,” she says. “Over the past few years, we have made it a point to showcase timeless pieces and not just rely on current trends.”

The boutique’s exclusive household goods offer customers new ways to approach everyday practices. “As I welcome guests into my universe, I hope they discover new things about the shop and, between the lines, some little secrets of mine,” says Elisheva.
